CRAFTS COUNCIL GALLERY
The Crafts Council is launching a new venue in London
dedicated to contemporary craft design. Converted from a
former 19th century chapel, this multi-use space will serve
as a destination for exhibitions, events and study for both
makers and the general public. Its inaugural exhibition,
Maker’s Eye, is open from 28 March to 20 June. Curated by
13 leading designer-makers and featuring the largest-ever
showcase of objects from the Crafts Council Collection, it
tells the story of British craft from the 1970s onwards, from
the functional to conceptual. Eleven new acquisitions for the
collection, chosen by the artists, will also be revealed.

ADOBE MAX EUROPE
Held each autumn in LA, Adobe’s annual MAX conference
offers a great opportunity to meet fellow creatives, be inspired
by world-class speakers, and enjoy sneak peaks of where Adobe
is going with its software. But for those on the other side of the
Atlantic, it’s a bit of a trek. So it’s great news that Adobe Max
is finally launching a sister event in Europe, on 15-16 June in
Lisbon, Portugal. Adobe’s own Shantanu Narayen, Scott Belsky
and Ann Lewnes have already been announced as speakers,
along with Vasava’s Bruno Sellés and graphic designer and
author Monika Gaus. Tickets cost €799.

This is great if you want help getting started in your career.
Werkhouse is an annual weekend workshop based in Bristol
on 13-14 June, where 30 students and graduates are invited
to develop the creative and interpersonal skills needed to
succeed in a design studio. You’ll work in teams under the
guidance of experts, including designers from Taxi Studio
and Supple Studio, and respond to a project scenario. These
have previously included: “What if the Met Office went to
Glastonbury?” and “Microsoft goes to Pride”. After
developing your ideas, you’ll gain experience in
communicating concepts to clients and receiving feedback.
But act quickly! The applications deadline is 30 April.
