TATR is the oldest
and largest national
park located in
Chandrapur district
of Maharashtra.
TADOBA is named
after Lord Taru
Dev, king of the
Gond tribe while
Andhari refers to
the Andhari river
that flows through
the forest.Tadoba is
famous for the apex
predator, the Royal
Bengal Tiger. Other
animals that do
inhabit the land of
Taru are the Sloth
bear, Indian Wild
Dog (Dhole), Indian
Leopard and the
Gaur.

These collectively are known as the
Big Five. The spotted Deer, Sambar,
Nilgai are other common herbivores
seen in Tadoba. In addition to this
there is a variety of birds and insects
that can be spotted while one is on
the safari.

I visited TATR in November 2021 and as cliche
as it may sound it has been the most memorable
trip of my life. I have always had an interest in
animals/wildlife but witnessing the Panthera
Tigris during the safari only makes me want to
go back to TATR and explore other Tiger
National Parks across India. My family and I
were on our morning safari and our guide,
Kauloo Dada noticed fresh pugmarks of Tigress
Lara. Those days Tigress Lara was spotted with
her cubs on multiple sightings and we thought
we were lucky. Though our gypsy followed the
pugmarks, we lost track but there was still hope.
Kauloo Dada in the meantime noticed that there
were constant Peacock and Sambar calls
indicating presence of a tiger in the nearby area.
