Ditch diesel

“I still adore a diesel,” says James

Ruppert (11 March). Really, James?

You adore walking around, breathing

in all those super-fine particulates

diesel produces, getting them deep

into your lungs and throughout your

body? You adore that happening to

children and vulnerable old people?

The only reason people bought

so many diesel cars was because of

the supposed economy (which is

really only any good if you’re doing

very high mileages) and because

the government’s taxation for years

made diesel cheaper than petrol.

T he w orld i s w a k i n g up t o t he

awful stuff that diesel is. It’s about

time that James Ruppert did too.
