Step 20: Deactivate the selection
with Select>Deselect. Click on the
Rubble 2 layer and press Com-
mand-V (PC: Ctrl-V) to paste the
copied pixels as a new layer. Use the
same Hue/Saturation adjustment to
colorize this layer. Now we have
debris that matches the same color
and texture as the statue. Make
as many copies of this layer and
transform at will to create as much
falling debris as you’d like. Use the
Eraser tool (E) to remove any debris
that seems out of place.
Step 21: Add a new layer named “Dust” under the lowermost Rubble layer, just
above the Background layer. Grab the Brush tool (B) and open the Brushes panel
(Window >Brushes). Scroll down to the Special Effects Brushes set, and select the
first of the Kyle’s Spatter Brushes. Use the Option (PC: Alt) key to sample a light
color from the statues. Then paint in some dust using this spatter brush. This
brush tip can be somewhat erratic, so use the Eraser tool to remove stray dust
particles that may have gone awry.
