Step 22: To create the title text,
there’s a couple options from
which you can choose. A quick
search online will reveal a fan-
crafted font that closely matches
the actual Altered Carbon font,
and it’s freely available for per-
sonal use. If you don’t want to use
that, the Adobe Font called New
Atten Round Regular will work. To
load a font from Adobe Fonts, go
to Type>More from Adobe Fonts,
and when the website launches,
sign in with your Adobe ID, search
for your font, and then click the
Activate Font switch.
If using New Atten Round, cre-
ate the words on separate layers just
above the Background layer using
the Type tool, and then convert the
type to shapes with Type>Convert
to Shape. Use the Direct Selection
tool (nested below the Path selec-
tion tool [A] in the Toolbar) and the
Pen tool (P) to manipulate the con-
trol points to craft the text so the A,
R, and B shapes match the actual
font as shown here.
Step 23: With the Carbon layer active, marquee around the O shape with the
Direct Selection tool to select it, and press Delete (PC: Backspace). Create a new layer
between the two text shape layers. Grab the Polygon tool (it’s under the Rectangle
tool [U] in the Toolbar) and, in the Options Bar, set the Sides to 6, the Fill to No Color,
the Stroke color to white, and the Stroke Width to 7 px. Draw out the polygon shape
(press-and-hold the Spacebar while drawing the shape to reposition it). Use Free
Transform to rotate it so the left and right sides are vertical.
