Die Wissenschaft bezieht die Philosophie in ihren
Forschungsalltag ein. Der Wissenschaftler betont
immer wieder, wie wichtig es ist, die richtigen Fragen zu
stellen, da diese zu den aussagekräftigsten Antworten
führen werden.
Sie studierte Physik an der Pontifícia Universidade
Católica do Rio de Janeiro (PUC) und promovierte im
selben Bereich an der University of California, Berkeley,
in den Vereinigten Staaten. Sie weiß, dass die Fähigkeit,
Fragen zu stellen, der zentrale Punkt ist, um neue Wege zu
finden. Das Hinterfragen fördert die Suche nach Wissen
und nach einem tiefen Verständnis der Dinge in der Welt.
“Eine gute Frage zu formulieren, ist in der Regel
schwieriger als die Antwort zu finden”, sagt sie mit der
Überzeugung von jemandem, der diese Überlegung in der
Praxis erlebt hat. Die Kunst des Fragens, die für Neugierige
charakteristisch ist, ist mit dem wissenschaftlichen
Fortschritt verbunden und eröffnet neue Wege für das
Verständnis alter Fragen, für Entdeckungen und für die
Formulierung neuer Herausforderungen.
Zwischen Fragen und Antworten widmet sich die
ordentliche Professorin und ehemalige Direktorin des
Physikinstituts der Universidade Federal do Rio de
Janeiro (UFRJ) der theoretischen Forschung im Bereich
der Physik der kondensierten Materie. Sie erhielt die
Titel Grã-Cruz da Ordem Nacional do Mérito Científico
(„Kommandeur und Großkreuz des Nationalen Ordens
für wissenschaftliche Verdienste“), den Para Mulheres
na Ciência (“Für Frauen in der Wissenschaft”) von
L’Oréal-Unesco und ist Vollmitglied der Academia
Brasileira de Ciências („Brasilianischen Akademie
der Wissenschaften“), der Guggenheim Memorial
Foundation und der Weltakademie der Wissenschaften.
Wenn sie mit ihrem Enkel zusammen ist, ist sie
sehr aktiv und erneuert den Geist des Fragens, der in
der Kindheit so elementar war. Sie lädt ihre Zuneigung

Having majored in Physics at the Pontifícia
Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (PUC) and
having obtained a Doctorate in the same area from
the University of California, Berkeley, in the United
States, she understands that the ability to know how to
question is the central point to see new routes or new
paths. Questioning propitiates the search for knowledge
and for a deep understanding of things in the world.
“Formulating a good question is usually more
difficult than finding the answer,” she says with the
conviction of someone who has experienced this
reflection in practice. Characteristic of the curious, the
art of asking is linked to scientific progress, opening
new paths to the understanding of old questions, to
discoveries, and to the formulation of new challenges.
Between questions and answers, the full professor
and former director of the Physics Institute at the
Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) is
dedicated to theoretical research in Condensed Matter
Physics. She has received the commendatory and grand
cross degrees of the Ordem Nacional do Mérito Científico
(“National Order of Scientific Merit”), the L’Oréal-Unesco
Women in Science Award, and is a full member of the
Academia Brasileira de Ciências (“Brazilian Academy of
Sciences”), the Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, and
the World Academy of Sciences.
In full activity, when she is with her grandson
she renews the spirit of questioning, so elementary
in childhood. She recharges her affections and
keeps on asking.85
