chemicals to the
brain and even
regulating our sleep.
Clint explains how
grounding works to
drastically improve the quality
and depth of our sleep.
“An eight-week study conducted on
12 men and women found that those
who slept in earthing sheets (ones that
can conduct the earth’s electromagnetic
energy) were able to normalise their
cortisol levels and experienced less
emotionally charged reactions,” he says.
“Even more interesting for day-to-day
application was the fact that 11 out
of 12 participants were able to fall
asleep faster and nine out of 12 woke
feeling more refreshed, had more

the electrons we absorb neutralise free
radical damage, squelch inflammation,
restore healthy endocrine function and
enhance cellular gating and circulation.
This improves cellular uptake of
nutrients, oxygen and hormones while
maximising the removal of cellular
waste,” says Clint.
It’s why we feel happier after going
to the beach. In fact, did you know
that beaches have as much as 2000
negative ions per cubic centimetre
compared to less than 100 in a crowded
city? Thankfully, Australia is spoilt
for coastline so we have plenty of
opportunities to get grounded.
From my own experience, I know that
when I get my feet on the beach, paddle
in the waves or sink my toes into the
sand, I feel more alert and energised.
When I get back to my desk, I’m
sharper and can maintain my focus and
attention for much longer periods.

Unearthing the science
A growing body of scientific evidence
(championed by Clint and his team)
prove the benefits of grounding
and why we need to makeita
regular practice to survive
as humans in today’s
modern world.
One particularly
robust summary
of the grounding
research available in
the US was published
in the Journal of
Environmental and
Public Health. The
summary study found that
grounding can improve sleep,
normalise the day-night cortisol
rhythm, reduce pain, reduce
stress, shift the autonomic nervous
system from sympathetic toward
parasympathetic activation, increase
heart rate variability, speed wound
healing, and reduce blood viscosity.
Given that inflammation is the root
cause of most modern-day chronic
diseases, such as type 2 diabetes, it’s
important we take a closer look at why
grounding is so effective at reducing
inflammation, giving a kick of feel-good

energy throughout the day and reported
less emotional distress, anxiety
and depression.”
Research also proves that grounding
is beneficial for helping to normalise our
cortisol levels. Cortisol is a hormone that
works alongside adrenaline to kick in
our ‘fight or flight’ response.
Yet our hormones can’t distinguish
between real threats (such as being
chased by a bear) and environmental
conditioning (such as checking or
reading a stressful email on our phone).
That’s why balancing our electrons by
connecting with the electro-magnetic
pulse of the earth becomes so important.
Therefore, if science proves that
introducing a regular grounding
practice into your day is a really

grounding
is beneficial
forhelping
to normalise
our cortisol
