[UK] Solotech has expanded its video
department into the UK and opened new
offices in central London, situated close to
Covent Garden tube station. As part of the
strategy, the company has appointed Ian
‘Woody’ Woodall as director of video and
Paul McCauley as video business
development manager in the UK and
European markets.

[World] The events sector has been badly
hit by the COVID-19 pandemic as countries
across the globe have moved to tackle the
spread of the virus by imposing stringent
travel bans and restrictions on public
gatherings and large events.
In the US, Broadway theatres have been
closed until further notice as New York
declared a state of emergency, whilst in the
UK, all theatres, venues and events spaces
have been forced to close due to the
Government’s strict lockdown measures.
Theatrical productions, concert tours,
sporting events, festivals, film shoots and
televised spectaculars with live audiences
have all taken the hit.
Large-scale festivals and events to have
cancelled at the time of LSi going to press

include: Austin’s SXSW festival, the UK’s
Glastonbury, Download, Isle of Wight and
Edinburgh Fringe festivals, plus the
Wimbledon Tennis Championship due to
take place in London this June and the
Eurovision Song Contest, which had been
scheduled to take place in The Netherlands
this May. Meanwhile, major entertainment
technology tradeshows have also had to
move or cancel their 2020 editions. These
include Frankfurt’s Prolight+Sound 2020,
AES Vienna and the UK’s PLASA Focus
Leeds. In the US, Houston’s USITT and the
NAB Show in Las Vegas have also been
called off along with InfoComm.
The unprecedented mass cancellation of
live events caused by the coronavirus have
had a devastating effect on many creatives,

manufacturers and rental houses in the
entertainment industry. For more on this,
