ABODE
Located near Old Naples and the beach in The Isles of Collier
Preserve, the Cape Cod–style residence was rich in architectural
integrity. To heighten its coastal feel, Hoover augmented the white
woodwork with additional trim and gave the oak floors an aged pat-
ina. Walls were painted a pale mushroom gray to complement the
light woods throughout.
To break up the long, narrow foyer, Hoover added more mill-
work to the doorways and a large mirror for reflection. In the inter-
est of creating a thread between the past and present, she flanked
the console with two iron cranes that stood in the husband’s par-
ents’ Florida home.
In the great room, Hoover reupholstered the sofa and side chairs
with a modern take on a houndstooth fabric. A large clock with a
nautical feel is another nod to coastal living, as is the mermaid stand-
ing next to the television cabinet. The mini propeller is a lighthearted
reference to the husband’s father’s days as a pilot.
Since the seaside lifestyle is based on spending a great deal of time
outdoors, the room connects to the exterior via a long bank of slid-
ers. The pool just beyond the outdoor entertaining area is enriched
by a cascading water feature that pleasantly obscures sounds.
The open kitchen connects seamlessly to the great room through
a muted color palette and shimmering accents, like the mother-
of-pearl on the marble backsplash. The owners enjoy giving their
