UNIVERSITY SPORTS (FASU)
As every year, the round up for 2023 in FASU was
equally eventful and lively as before. Having a lot of
important events, celebrating university sport, and
developing it each year more and more, FASU has
especially been proud of several highlighted events.
Elective General
Assembly 2023
On May 6th, FASU held its
Elective General Assembly,
which ushered in a new
Executive Committee for
the period 2023- 2027. The
meeting, hosted by University
Sports South Africa at the
University of the Witwatersrand
in Johannesburg, South Africa,
saw Prof. Sobhy Ashraf (Egypt)
elected to the Presidency.
Current a Minister of Youth
and Sports in the national
government of Egypt, Prof.
Ashraf Sobhy is a professor
of Sports Economics and has
previously served as General
Secretary of the Egyptian
University Sports Federation,
Executive Director of the
International Cairo Stadium
among others.
Other directly elected members
of the executive include: 1st
Vice President – Muzuva
Tsitsi (Zimbabwe), 2nd Vice
President – Ahshad Tariq (Libya),
Secretary General – Peninnah A.
Kabenge (Uganda), Treasurer –
Rono Kibet Alfred (Kenya),
Internal Auditor – Chidiebere
Ezeani (Nigeria) and Student
Representative – Emmanuel
Aupal (Uganda). These are
joined by representatives of
the 5 FASU Zones and the
immediate past president
to complete the Executive
Committee.
