4 th FISU-FASU


Strategic Dialogue


The city of Johannesburg,
South Africa, also played
host to the 4th FISU-FASU
Strategic Dialogue on May
5 th, 2022, at the University of
the Witwatersrand, with 120
participants from Algeria,
Botswana, Egypt, Burundi,
Cameroon, DR. Congo, Ethiopia,
Ghana, Libya, Ivory Coast,
Madagascar, Namibia, Nigeria,
Rwanda, Senegal, Somalia,
South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda,
Zambia, Zimbabwe, Comoros,
Egypt, Kenya, Morocco, Sierra
Leone, Lesotho, Burkina Faso,
Malawi and Mauritius.


The FISU-FASU Strategic
Dialogue was held under the
theme “Unlocking Africa’s
Potential”, and was graced by
Acting FISU President, Leonz
Eder.


FASU Championship
2023 Highlights


FASU organised 3
championships in 2023, which
not only showcased athletic
prowess but also fostered
international representation
and competitive spirit among
universities from various African
countries and universities.


The King of Africa University
Rugby 7s and FASU Tennis
Slam took place at Makerere


University, Kampala, Uganda, on
October 7th and 8th, 2023. Rugby
attracted six universities from
Uganda and Kenya, while Tennis
attracted 10 universities from
Uganda, Kenya, and Ghana.

The 5th FASU 3X3 Basketball
Challenge, held in
Johannesburg, South Africa,
saw American University
in Cairo (Egypt), University
of Cape Coast (Ghana), and
United States International
University-Africa (Kenya) qualify
to represent Africa at the FISU
University World Cup 3X3
Basketball in Doha, Qatar.

Africa’s Representatives at
the FISU University World Cup
(3X3 Basketball and Football)
America University in Cairo
made history by being the 1st
African university to reach the
finals of the FISU University
World Cup 3×3 Basketball 2023,
and won silver in the event in
November in Doha, Qatar. Africa
qualified four teams from 3
universities (America University
in Cairo, the University of Cape
Coast, and the United States
International University in
Africa).

Kenyatta University (Kenya)
and L’Universite De Kindia
(Guinea) represented Africa in
men’s and women’s categories,
respectively, at the FISU
University World Cup in Football.

2 nd International Forum
for Sports, Investment and
Manufacturing in Cairo
FASU was part of the 2nd
International Forum for Sports
Investment and Manufacturing,
held from October 29th to
31 st, 2023, in Cairo, Egypt and
organised in collaboration with
the Ministry of Sports in Egypt.
Two presentations from FASU
were made by Ms. Chidiebere
Ezeani, the FASU internal
auditor on the investment
opportunities in African
university sport; and Dr. Simon
Munayi, the president of the
East African University Sports
Federation, on the future of
African university sports.

FASU President celebrated
at the UCSA Sports Award
Dr. Ashraf Sobhy the President
of the Federation of Africa
University Sports Federation and
also the Minister of Youth and
Sports of the Arab Republic of
Egypt emerged as the recipient
of the prestigious Best Africa
Sports Service Award during the
Association of African Sports
Confederations (UCSA) African
Sports Awards as a testament
to his unwavering dedication and
significant impact on the realm
of sports services.

The UCSA African Sports
Awards ceremony was not
just a celebration of individual

achievements, but also an
acknowledgment of the positive
influence that sports can have
on society.

International Day of
University Sports
The official FASU IDUS
celebrations were held in
Uganda in conjunction with
the Association of Uganda
University Sports and Makerere
University.

The week-long celebrations
that took place from 17th to
24 th September, 2023, included
various activities on each
day as follows: taekwondo
performance, cycling, a fresher’s
swimming gala, 3 football
matches, a Rugby 7 circuit,
Aerobic dancing, Operation
Clean Sports Environment,
and cake cutting, reaffirming
the importance of sport in
universities and the role of
universities in the community
as responsible actors for
consolidating and developing
quality physical and sport
education at the service of
citizens. Other activities were
also held in South Africa, Kenya
and Ghana.
