modifications to the EUSA
Statutes and Internal
Regulations, focusing on
general management and good
governance, ensuring fairer
representation, identifying
potential conflicts of interest,
and introducing age limits for
elected representatives.
The Activity Plan and
Provisional Budget for 2023-
2024 were presented and
discussed. The summer season
of the European Universities
Championships in 19 sports
set a new record for EUSA in
2023, with 5,352 participants
from 508 universities in 39
countries. The European
Universities Winter Sports
Championships featuring Alpine
Skiing, Snowboarding, and
Snow Volleyball, scheduled
for December in Val di Zoldo,
were presented to all the public
gathered.
In the upcoming 2024,
Hungarian cities and universities
in Debrecen and Miskolc will
host the European Universities
Games, as presented by
Szabolcs Biro, emphasizing that
the event is “More than Games,”
as the slogan suggests. In 2024,
also the championship in rowing
will be held, hosted in Istanbul.
Looking ahead, participants at
the EUSA General Assembly
glimpsed into the future
years. In 2025, the European
Universities Championships in
the summer season will feature
at least 21 sports. The 2026
European Universities Games
are scheduled to take place in
Salerno, Italy, as presented by
Lorenzo Lentini and Francis
Cirianni.
Bidding for the 2027
Championships was planned for
commerce in November. Exciting
news was shared that three
cities, Split (CRO), Granada
(ESP), and Manisa (TUR),
submitted letters of interest
for hosting the European
Universities Games in 2028. The
attribution of the Games is set
for April next year.
EUSA members unanimously
approved the Executive
Committee‘s proposal to bestow
the highest organizational
honorary distinction, the title of
EUSA Honorary Member, upon
Lorenz Ursprung, former EUSA
Treasurer, and Peter George,
the long-time EUSA Technical
Delegate for Basketball.
Notably, the EUSA Executive
Committee maintains
an institutional Student
Representative position,
ensuring that at least one voting
Executive Committee Member
is a student aged 17-30 upon
election. This year, the mandate
expired for Flobena Nikolli, who
served as both the student
representative and Chair of
the Student Commission. The
Assembly elected Klea Taipllari
(ALB) as the new Student
Representative in the Executive
Committee.
In the upcoming year, EUSA
will mark its 25th anniversary,
and the celebration will be
commemorated with a special
Conference and Gala in
Vienna, Austria, scheduled for
November 2024. The plans were
unveiled by the hosts, President
of the Austrian University
Sports Organisation Unisport
Austria Hemma Angerer, and
Georg Denev from the University
of Vienna.
Looking ahead, the next EUSA
General Assembly is slated for
2025 and will be an electoral
one. The Croatian Academic
Sport Federation (CASF/HASS)
will play host to the assembly in
the city of Zagreb.
The events in Kusadasi
continued the next day with the
EUSA-FISU Strategic Dialogue,
EUSA Gala and Awards
Ceremony.
