senior Makenzee Grimm received
the annual Carrie Adams Memorial
Scholarship Award recently from
Chuck Adams. (Photo provided)

Award, which is given out each
year by the Adams family to an STP
student-athlete who has plans to con-
tinue their education at the college
level.
Grimm, a National Honor Society
member at St. Philip and a starting
member of the Tigers’ volleyball and
basketball teams, will be attending
Michigan State University starting
this coming fall where she will work
toward a degree in kinesiology.
The scholarship is named after for-

mer St. Philip and Western Michigan
University volleyball star Carrie
Adams, who died in 1995 of the dis-
eases anorexia and bulimia.
Since that time, the Adams family

  • dad Chuck and mom Cheryl – has
    sponsored an early-season prep vol-
leyball tournament each year that is
in Carrie’s name. The tourney pro-
    motes education about anorexia and
bulimia, and also involves the award-
ing of an academic scholarship to a
deserving STP student at the end of

the school year.
This year’s upcoming 29th annual
Carrie Adams Memorial Volleyball
Tournament, which draws a double-
digit number of teams from around
the state, is expected to take place
during one of the final two weekends
in August. The tourney is annually
hosted by St. Philip, and was held at
the Battle Creek Family YMCA for
several years before moving across
town to Harper Creek High the past
couple of campaigns.

Your power steering fluid works hard in a very high
pressure and high temperature environment. Metallic
and rubber wear particles can accelerate the failure of
your steering pump and/or rack.

Your transmission fluid is compromised by heat. As your
fluid ages, lubrication and detergents are depleated. This
leads to deposit accumulations and even higher operating
temperature, which may accelerate component wear
and/or failure.

Over time, as moisture content increases in your brake
fluid, brake line corrosion can occur as well as spongy
pedal feel, which may result in increased stopping
distances.

to compromise your driveline lubricants. Moisture from
humidity and condensation break down your lubricants,

As your anti-freeze/coolant ages, the active organic
compounds and pump lubricants break down and become
less effective at preventing corrosion and water pump
wear/failure.
