in the Michigan High School
Athletic Association Division 3
Championships as a senior at Harper
Creek – was filled with successes.
Included on her links resume were a
second-place individual standing in
the MIAA, her first career collegiate
first-place tourney finish (at The
Moors in Kalamazoo), six top-three
overall finishes and a national rank-
ing of 107.
“And I also became the first-ever
female golfer at Adrian to earn all-
region honors for the Great Lakes
region last year,” she said.
“Overall, it was just a great junior
season for me at Adrian, and I hope
to finish out my career next year
with even more positive accomplish-
ments.”
Following Reed around the BCCC
layout during her Epson Tour round
on June 7 were dad Steve and grand-
ma Therese, with mom Kelly also
on the grounds and her uncle Rick
Gloar serving as her caddy.
Missing from her gallery was
grandpa John – a BCCC member

starting in 1979 – who passed away
in September 2023.
Also coming out to check Reed out
was her former high school coach,
Cindy Kerridge.
“I’m thankful for all of the people
who came out to support me for the
FireKeepers,” Reed said. “I missed
not having grandpa out there as well

  • he’s the one who got me interested
in golf and then followed me all
over the place to watch me during
my youth and high school days and
I love him dearly – but in a way,
it was almost like he was out there
watching me playing in my backyard
    course.
“I really feel like I played in
this tourney to honor my grandpa,
because I know he’d be very proud
    of me.”
    Reed also thanked the FireKeepers’
    organization for providing her with
an exemption to play in the tour-
ney, and additionally thanked all of
her family and friends who were as
excited about her being in a profes-
sional tourney for the first time as
    she was.
    “How this experience playing with
lots and lots of professional players
is going to help me down the road,

maybe even after college, is some-
thing that will unfold in the future,”
she said. “Maybe someday I’ll be
interested in giving the Epson Tour a
real try.
“But first, I’m going to finish out
my senior year at Adrian College,
where academically I’m majoring in
biology and minoring in bio-chemis-
try – and where I’m also applying to
multiple physicians assistant schools
for more schooling after Adrian.”
Reed also noted that in her imme-
diate future – prior to being a full-
time, senior-class student-athlete at
Adrian again this fall – she’s going
to take her golf clubs abroad with her
in a couple weeks.
“I’m doing a study in Rome, Italy
at the end of this month,” she said,
“and I’m going to see if I can’t play
a little golf while I’m there, too.”
Note: The first-place finisher at the
June 7-9 11th annual FireKeepers
Hotel Casino Championship was
second-year Epson Tour player and
first-time winner Cassie Porter, 21,
of Australia. She had a six-under-par
total of 210 and earned $30,000.
Tying for second place were
Amelia Garvey of New Zealand,
Jo-Hua Hung of Taiwan, Brooke
Matthews of Arkansas and Anita
Uwadia of Nigeria at 5-under 211

  • with all of them earning $13,273
    apiece.
