Each academic year, the Bachelor
of Science in Nursing (BSN)
program at Northern Michigan
University (NMU) selects one out-
standing graduate and this year, that
person is Emma Carey DeVries of
Battle Creek.
Selection is made based upon
overall academic performance and
student involvement/impact beyond
the classroom, according to Dean of
Nursing Katie Mendard.
“We are proud to announce our
2023/2024 outstanding BSN gradu-
ate, Emma Carey,” said Menard.
“During Emma’s time at NMU, she
was not only an exemplary student
but also an active and influential
member of the School of Nursing
community.”
Emma was awarded multiple
clinical excellence awards for going
above and beyond course expecta-
tions during her clinical rotations,
Menard added. “She worked in our
nursing technology center and in this
role helped create a sense of commu-
nity and belonging for students at all
levels of the program,” said Menard.
