total and a fifth- place finish at
the Michigan PGA Junior Boys’
Championship Tournament that took
place June 27-28 at Bedford Valley
Golf Club in Battle Creek.
The 48th annual MPGA Junior
Boys’ Championship had a fin-
ishing field of 190 golfers ages
13-18 – and only the first-place fin-
isher advanced to the PGA National
Junior Boys’ Championship event
that’s set to take place July 30-Aug.
2 at Congressional Country Club in
Bethesda, MD.
Earning that berth and represent-
ing Michigan at nationals at the June
27-28 event at Bedford Valley was
Cooper Reitsma of Ada with a two-
day total of 7-under-par 137 (69 on
Day 1 and 68 on Day 2).
Aside from VanderMolen, the only

VanderMolen finishes fifth at MPGA Junior Boys’ Championship

and concluded with a round of 82
for a plus-24 168 total and a tied-
for-95th-place overall finish.

Championship took place in B.C.
at Bedford Valley, this year’s
48th annual MPGA Girls’ Junior
Championship was held June
20-21 at Washtinaw Golf Club in
Ypsilanti.
Winning that tourney with a
4-under-par 140 (71-69) and advanc-
ing to girls’ nationals July 30-Aug. 3
at Congressional in Bethesda as the
Michigan Section’s representative
was Alena Li of Okemos.
