We were able to provide them with
free food, entertainment, the car
show and the carnival.”
The church also asked attendees
to complete a “Community Needs
Assessment Survey” with questions

about community facilities, infra-
structure, childcare centers, educa-
tion quality, after school program-
ming, the quality and accessibility of
healthcare services, economic oppor-
tunities and more.
“We got a lot of great feedback on
our Facebook page, talking about
how it was an excellent event, very
well organized,” said French. “We
had a lot of community support with
people coming out to enjoy the Day
of Hope to take part in community
engagement.”
The event was made possible not
only by 23 volunteers from the orga-
nizations involved but by the Battle
Creek Community Foundation, W.K.
Kellogg Foundation and more.
“Some of our partners were Second
Missionary Baptist Church, Shiloh
Missionary Baptist Church, Love
in Action, Macedonia Missionary
Baptist Church, First Salem,
Marantha Original Church of God
in Christ, Community Ministerial
Alliance, Battle Creek Public
Schools and Kellogg Community
College,” said French. “Those were
our big supporters of this but we
had other supporters like Carewell
Services, the Prosecuting Attorney’s
Office, wWe had Dr. Michael Glass,
he’s a great sponsor, he sponsored a
tent for us, Meijer’s. We had a lot of
great community support.”
French said she is already looking
for support for next year’s carnival.
“If anyone is looking to partner
with us for next year, feel free to
contact Washington Heights United

Methodist Church and Community,
153 N Wood Street, (269) 968-
