represent Battle Creek in the NABF
World Series. It was nice to do so
last year also as an at-large bid along
with the Merchants being the host
team, but I think this year is even
more special since we had to work
through the regionals to get to the
World Series, which is not being
held in Battle Creek anymore.
“That in itself is very disappoint-
ing. I understand the circumstances,
but it would have been nice for
everyone to see the local talent play
here. Battle Creek was once known
as the amateur baseball capital of
the United States. From hosting the
Stan Musial World Series to the
NABF World Series. I’ve had the
incredible opportunity to play and
coach in both.
“But this year, our guys battled
hard in both the city playoffs and the
regionals to achieve our goal of going
to the World Series. We played hard
and are really gelling at the right time.
It was a total team effort. We have
a great bunch of guys, and through
all my experience in baseball, I treat

this not only as a team, but also as a
family with a family atmosphere to it.
Everyone depending on each other and
working together as one. Hopefully
we can continue what we started, and
do well in the Series.
“Also, I want to thank my guys for
everything they’ve accomplished.
And also I want to thank Terry
Newton, Jack McCulley (league
director and Merchants manager),
Dave Caley (founder of Shamrocks
baseball). Plus, all the families,
friends, businesses and everyone for
their help and support. Go Shamrocks
baseball!”
