When Ta Yen-yi died [in 816], his younger brother Ming-chung
was enthroned (Wen-hsien t’ung-k’ao 326:58a).
In the 3rd month (April) of 816, Po-hai Mo-ho envoys were received
at the T’ang court. The 20 members of the mission were appointed to
Chinese offices (T’ang hui-yao 196:12a-12b; Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5033).
In the 11th month (Nov./Dec.) of 816, Mo-ho and Po-hai offered
gifts (Chiu T’ang shu 15:11b; Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5033).
In the 2nd month (Feb./Mar.) of 817, Po-hai envoys offered gifts
(Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5033).
When Ta Ming-chung died [in 817], he was succeeded by his
paternal uncle Jen-hsiu (Wen-hsien t’ung-k’ao 326:58a).
In 818, Po-hai envoys announced the death of Ta Ming-chung
(Chiu T’ang shu 15:16a; 199B:13a).
On June 25, 818, Hsien-tsung appointed Ta Jen-hsiu as Imperial
Household Grandee of the Silver Seal and Blue Ribbon, Acting Inspec-
tor of the Imperial Library, and Military Governor [of the non-existant
Hu-han Area Command], and recognized him as king of the Po-hai
State (Chiu T’ang shu 15:14b; 199B:13a; Tzu-chih t’ung-chien p.7751).
In the intercalary month (Feb./Mar.) of 820, Po-hai envoys offered
presents. Emperor Mu-tsung appointed Jen-hsiu as Imperial Household
Grandee of the Golden Seal and Purple Ribbon and Acting Minister
of Works (Chiu T’ang shu 199B:13a; Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5033).
In the 12th month (Jan./Feb., 821) of the Chinese year 820, Po-
hai envoys offered gifts (Chiu T’ang shu 199B:13a; Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei
p.5033).
In the 1st month (Jan./Feb.) of 822, Po-hai envoys offered gifts
(Chiu T’ang shu 199B:13a;Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5033).
In the 2nd month (Mar./Apr.) of 824, Po-hai envoys offered gifts
(Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5033).
In the 3rd month (Mar./Apr.) of 825, five Po-hai envoys offered
gifts (Chiu T’ang shu 199B:13b; Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5033).
In the 1st month (Feb./Mar.) of 826, Po-hai envoys offered gifts
(Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5023).
In the 4th month (May) of 827, Po-hai envoys were received at the
T’ang court (Chiu T’ang shu 199B:13b; Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5033).
In the 12th month (Dec./Jan., 830) of the Chinese year 829, Po-hai
envoys offered gifts (Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5033).
