his is one of the places where Aerith picks the flowers she
sells, as it’s right by her house. Like most of the slums, the
building has fallen into disrepair due to Shinra’s neglect,
but life still grows through the cracked floorboards, and Aerith
makes sure that they flourish even below the surface of Midgar.

ext to the Sector 7 slums, this site was once key to
Midgar’s construction, but over the years it’s been left
neglected by Shinra and has become a dumping ground.
The creaks of the wind through metal are ominous, but so are the
monsters that lurk there, just out of sight.

he looping railway curls all around
the Shinra HQ at the heart of
Midgar, connecting the city’s upper
plate levels with the slums below.
There are ID checks on the train’s
passengers so that undesirables can be
seized by guards. Undesirables such as
Cloud and the gang. Thankfully they
know how to bypass them.

hile it’s unlikely we’ll get to
explore Nibelheim in this game
(it’s far away from Midgar), we’ll
probably see a fair amount of it in
Cloud’s flashbacks. It’s where he and
Tifa grew up, and somewhere Cloud
just can’t stop thinking about. Located
at the base of Mount Nibel, the town
almost has a ‘western frontier’ vibe.

hese reactors are where the Shinra
Electric Power Company pulls out
the planet’s energy. The metal insides
are lit by the planet’s aetherial power,
and that vibrant life force can be felt
by those inside. Though, given that
Shinra is sucking the planet dry, it’s
walking the metal-grated catwalks
doesn’t always feel good.

eventh Heaven is Tifa’s bar
and the base of
AVALANCHE’s operations.
Most of the gang call the
slums beneath Sector 7
their home, and it’s also where
Barret has raised his daughter
Marlene. Surrounding the bar is a
town whose residents are just trying
to make the most of their oppressed
lives in the shadow of Midgar’s
upper class, who live above them.
