SHIVA

T

he original ice queen, she’s a mainstay of the
series and can always be counted on to
appear over the battlefield like a chilly mist,
ready to freeze your rivals in their tracks. Heavenly
Strike manifests a large, skull-crushing icicle above
enemies, and Diamond Dust shatters frozen foes.

CARBUNCLE

U

sing the ruby in its
forehead, fluffy
Carbuncle can be
summoned to help the
party with its magical
skills. The gemstone can
give buffs to allies and
protect them.

SUMMONS

You’ve got a friend in me

M

ateria aren’t just
used for magic and
abilities. At certain
points you’ll be able
to call on powerful
Summons, which are invaluable
against tough enemies and bosses, to
aid you in battle. They fight alongside

you and are controlled by AI, though
characters can spend ATB to command
them to use powerful moves. Once
their timer is depleted, they’ll unleash
one final special attack before
departing. In the PS1 game most were
found outside Midgar, but in Remake
you can play around with them earlier.

IFRIT

T

his fella’s all
about bringing
the heat, and has
a real fiery presence.
Grace falls by the
wayside as he dominates
the battle arena
alongside you. He can be
commanded to use his
flaming burst abilities to
set enemies alight, but
the fan oven is cranked
well above the
recommended 200
degrees to turn enemies
from roasted to crispy
with his Hellfire
special technique.

CACTUAR

T

he iconic Final
Fantasy enemy is
on your side when you
summon it, moving
jerkily around as you’d
expect, and firing
needle after needle
into your enemies.

CHOCOBO &
MOOGLE

T

his double dose of
mascot power can
devastate enemies with
Moogle Blast, but the
herd-raising Stampede
special technique is
where it’s at.

CHOCOBO
CHICK

S

mall but mighty, the
chick packs a lot of
power into its small and
cute feathered body. It’ll
get up close and
personal with enemies
and blast them.
