Know your lops from your lionheads? Hop to it, with our handy guide.
English Spot
Yes, it has spots. But also other identifying
markings, such as the ‘herringbone’ which runs
the length of its back, making it easy to, er, spot.
Lionhead
It’s not hard to guess how this lapin got its
leonine name, it’s in the mane. However, it’s on
a miniature scale: reaching roughly 5cm long.
Dutch
One of the oldest breeds – rabbiting on since the
early 19th century – but remains one of the most
popular, thanks to its easy going nature.
English Lop
This breed won’t miss you rabbiting on with its
impressively long ears. It holds the World Record
for largest rabbit ear-span: a lopping 79cm.
Jersey Wooly
The jersey of this woolly is, in fact, New Jersey,
where it was bred in the 1980s. Today, a firm
favourite for show and pet purposes alike.
American Sable
Developed in the 1920s, through crossbreeding
with chinchillas. As sleek as any 20s f lapper,
thanks to its uniquely sepia-coloured coat.
French Lop
Bred from the English Lop and French
‘butterf ly’ rabbit. May f loat like a butterf ly, but
compared to the English lop, it’s a heavyweight.
Netherland dwarf
Bit of a big head – at least in comparison to
the rest of it. But, only weighing around 1kg
overall, it’s one of the littlest rabbits.
English Angora
Forget angora in your jumper, this is angora on
a jumper. In fact, a great bundle of f luff, from
their woolly faces down to their feet.
