Adobe Photoshop CS5 One-on-One

(やまだぃちぅ) #1

You can probably visually recognize the thin lines pattern from the available
patterns. But if you’d like to identify your patterns by name, click the
arrow to the right of the pattern window and choose Large List from the
flyout menu. Or you can hover the cursor over each pattern and wait for the
tooltip to appear, as in Figure 4-49.

In the Pattern Fill dialog box, enter 50 percent for the Scale
value. Click OK when you’re finished. The results are shown
in Figure 4-50.

Figure 4-50.

For the best results, you always want to scale the pattern by an even
fraction (50 percent, 25 percent, and so on) and keep the pattern as
large as possible. Remember that the lines have to print without filling
in, so a bit too big is just right.

  1. Adjust the layer style for the Thin Lines layer. Now to inte-
grate the pattern lines into the artwork:

    • Double-click in the empty area to the right of the Thin
Lines layer name in the Layers panel to bring up Layer
      Style dialog box.

    • Set the Blend Mode option to Multiply to drop out the
      whites and keep the blacks.

    • Next, use the Underlying Layer slider to taper the lines
in the photograph. Drag the white triangle until the right-
      hand value reads 180.
