Adobe Photoshop CS5 One-on-One

(やまだぃちぅ) #1
The result is an sunny, engaging, tightly composed head shot.
I wish we had more headroom to work with, but enough re-
mains to demonstrate that the model does indeed have hair on
the top of her head.

Bad news: As warned, the image still suffers from an empty wedge. Plus, I
think the image could benefit from a couple of mattes, like those used in
traditional picture framing. Filling in the wedge is a job for the magic wand.
Framing turns out to be an “uncropping” operation in which you add to the
canvas using the Canvas Size command. If you’re not interested, skip to the
next exercise, “Resizing an Image,” which begins on page 55. Otherwise, let’s
complete the image.

  1. Select the magic wand. Select the magic wand from the toolbox
(it lives with the quick selection tool, as shown in Figure 2-22)
or press the W key a couple of times (or Shift-W if you haven’t
followed my directions in the Preface.) In the options bar, make
sure the Tolerance value is somewhere in the 0 to 50 range and
Anti-aliased and Contiguous are both turned on.
