YOU WILL NEED

Materials

Q Basic quilting kit, see page 16

Q Patchwork top: six different fabric

scraps

Q Backing: cotton fabric, 42x42cm

(16½x16½in)

Q Binding: Four pieces of fabric or

bias binding

Q Wadding: 51x51cm (20x20in)

Seam allowance

1cm (^3 / 8 in) seams throughout

CUTTING OUT

From the binding fabric, cut:

s฀4WO฀XCM฀^3 / 8 x17¾in) pieces and

TWO฀฀X฀CM฀^3 / 8 x21¼in) pieces.

From the patchwork top fabrics, cut:

s฀&IVE฀XCM฀XIN   ฀SQUARES฀FROM฀

each of the six different fabrics.

MAKING THE PATCHWORK TOP

Step 1฀฀฀,AY฀OUT฀YOUR฀PATCHWORK฀

SQUARES฀AND฀PLAY฀WITH฀THE฀

ARRANGEMENT฀UNTIL฀YOURE฀HAPPY฀WITH฀IT฀

Pick up the squares and stack them in

piles to keep a record of their position.

Step 2฀฀฀4AKE฀THE฀TOP฀AND฀SECOND฀

square from the first stack, place them

RIGHT฀SIDES฀TOGETHER฀AND฀SEW฀ALONG฀ONE฀

SIDE฀LEAVING฀A฀CM฀^3 / 8 IN   ฀SEAM฀.OW฀

add the next square, and the next,

CONTINUING฀UNTIL฀YOUVE฀MADE฀A฀ROW฀

Step 3 R e p e a t s te p 2 fo r e a c h o f t h e

OTHER฀ROWS฀.OW฀IRON฀THE฀SEAMS฀OPEN฀

THEN฀PRESS฀THE฀RIGHT฀SIDE฀OF฀EACH฀ROW฀TO฀

iron out any creases.

together and match up the seams
