me recently on a ‘Race of My Life’Autosport
podcast, discussing thebest race ofhis F 1 career:
the 1994 Japanese GP.Abig partof what made it

Williams, that he belonged at thehighest level.
HillcontinuallywrestledwithdoubtsfromFrank
WilliamsandPatrickHeadthathewassuitedto
beingtheteam’sleadingdriverafterAyrtonSenna
died.Damonnowreadilyadmitshedidn’tdeliver
consistentlyenoughforWilliams,so en duredthe
ignominyofracingfortheent iretyofhistitle-
winningseasonknowingthattheteamhad
alreadyreplacedhim.
ThusHillknowssomethingofwhat thismonth’s
coverstar,CarlosSainz,andthemanSainzwill
