If you’renotfeelingtheflorals,use
anymedium-weightfabricyouhave
tohand– welovetheideaofdoing
a softcorduroyversion.

(^01) Usinga tapemeasure,notedown
yourfollowingmeasurements:waist
circumference,hipcircumference
andwaisttohip.Add2.5cm(1")
tothewaistmeasurementtoget
W,thenadd5cm(2")tothehip
measurementtogetH.Measure
fromyourwaistdowntowhereyou
wantthebottomhemtosittoget
SL– skirtlength.W-His yourwaist-
to-hipmeasurement.
(^02) Drawa rectangleontothe
patternpaperthelengthofSL
andthewidthof(H÷ 4).Youcan
usebakingpaperforthisif you
don’thavepatternpaper– just
sticktwosheetstogetherif it’snot
wideenough.Markthehipline
horizontallyacrossthecentreofthe
rectangle,W-Hdownfromthetop.
(^03) Measureandmark(W÷ 4) at the
topoftherectangle,startingat the
left-handside– thecentreofthe
skirt.Makea cross1cm(^3 / 8 ") above
thisendpoint.Usinga Frenchruler,
drawa smoothcurvefromthetop
leftoftherectangletothecrossto
createthewaistline.Drawanother
curvefromthecrosstotheright-
handouterpointofthehipline.
(^04) Usinga straightruler,marka
point5cm(2")outfromthebottom
rightcorneroftherectangle.Draw
a linefromtheouterhiplinetothis
point,asshown.Next,measureSL
fromtheadjustedwaistlinedown
tothebottomright-handsideof
therectangletomarkwherethe
adjustedhemlineshouldfinish.Use
theFrenchrulertodrawa smooth
curvefromthispointtothehemline
at thebottomleftoftherectangle,
creatinga flarefortheskirt.Usethe
imageasa guidetoplacement.

outfromtheskirtcentretocreate
thebuttonbandallowance,and
a parallelline4cm(1.5")down
fromthehemlinetoaddthehem
allowance.Finally,add1.5cm(^5 / 8 ")
seamallowanceabovethewaistline
andalongthesideseam,asshown.
Thisis yourfinishedskirtpattern,
andcannowbecutout.
(^06) Layoutthefabricrightside
(RS)upwiththepatternrunningin
thecorrectdirection.Foldin half
withRStogether,matchingthe
selvedges,thenpinthepatternon
top.Cutaroundthepatternusing
scissorsora rotarycuttertomake
twofrontskirtpieces.
(^07) Foldthebuttonbandallowance
onthepatterntothewrongside
(WS).Placethestraightcentreedge
ofthepatternalongthefoldofthe
fabric,pin,thencutouttocreate
onebackskirtpiece.
(^08) Cut a 9.5 x (W + 6)cm (3¾ x
(W + 2½)") piece of fabric for the
waistband, then cut a 3 x (W + 3)
cm (1¼ x (W + 1¼)") piece of
interfacing. Using an iron, press the
waistband in half along the length
