Writing lists may feel mundane and lacking in spontaneity (where’s the fun in that?), but
actually, its value is even more pertinent in an uncertain world. Lists can help you
feel present, guiding you away from the anxiety rabbit hole, a future you cannot control.
In fact, according to neuroscientist and psychotherapist Dr Daniel Levitin in his book,
The Organised Mind, ‘Writing things down conserves the mental energy expended in
worrying that you might forget something.’ Lists focus our intentions on what matters now,
anchoring thoughts in calmer waters. Rather than just simple to-do jobs, adding small goals
can be even more affirming. Make it until dinner without a fight. Check. Get 30 minutes
of fresh air. Check. And even things that weren’t on the list. Fix the teapot lid? Big check.
Because everything looks better after a cup of tea.

List away worries
