f lockdown has given us one thing, it’s the time to focus
on our bodies. Most of us have had to adapt our approach
to movement in the past few months (to say the least).
When both gyms and our favourite studios closed
their doors, home workouts became the Holy Grail.
And it turns out they’re pretty enjoyable. If we aren’t
tuning into Joe Wicks’s live weekday PE sessions
(as great for adults as they are for kids), we’re searching
YouTube for mindful yoga or googling how to stretch.
As with many other facets of our lives, with fewer options
available to us, we’ve found new ways to manage our exercise.
Whether in the garden or living room, in the space between
the bed and the wardrobe or next to the kitchen table, we’ve
discovered there are plenty of ways to exercise without leaving
the house. And given that it doesn’t cost a penny, it’s certainly
something we’ll be taking forward. With this in mind, we
compiled a series of at-home exercises to add to your daily
routine – from Joe Wicks’s heart-pumping workouts to Shona
Vertue’s soul-restoring stretches. Who needs gyms, anyway?

COACH ROGER
FRAMPTON
Stretching as a workout wasn’t something we’d considered
until we came across Roger Frampton. His TED Talk,
Why Sitting Down Destroys You, highlights how a sedentary
lifestyle has hindered our strength and flexibility. His antidote?
The Frampton Method, which consists of body-weight exercises
and stretches developed from gymnastics and yoga, designed
to get you moving like you did as a child. ‘By moving the
way you’re evolved to, you’ll increase flexibility and
become stronger for longer,’ says Roger.
Here, he’s created an exclusive lower body flexibility
routine. ‘Anyone can give this routine a go and, over time,
it will increase flexibility, aid mobility and counteract the
effects of sitting down.’
