MUST VISIT
The viewing platform
at the top of Bristol’s
beautiful and historic
Cabot Tower offers
a spectacular panorama
of the city, while M Shed,
a unique museum about
Bristol’s history, designed
to retain the character of
a former 1950s transit
shed, is also well worth
a visit. If you’re looking
for an evening drink in
beautiful surroundings,
the Glassboat restaurant
is the perfect spot to enjoy
a glass of crisp white wine
overlooking the river.

GETTING THERE
At first glance, I felt a little
overwhelmed – the Volvo XC60
is huge! However, once in the
driver’s seat, with my partner,
Jack, in the passenger’s seat,
I completely forgot about the
car’s size and instead relaxed
into an easy, comfortable drive.
Our journey to Bristol was
made a lot easier with cruise
control, allowing me to fully
take my feet off the pedals and
let the car do the work with its
automatic braking. The steering
assist and automatic gears
made every bend smooth and
effortless, and I had fun
working out how to use the
massage feature on the seats

  • a definite highlight!

WHERE
TO STAY
Bristol Harbour Hotel and
Spa is a Grade II-listed
building (originally two of
the city’s banks), a handy
walking distance from the
centre. The vast reception
exudes grandeur with high
ceilings, beautiful decor
and Art Deco furniture,
while the subterranean spa
is designed from the vaults,
with original features, such
as the doors, still intact.
Our room was beautiful
and came with lots of
little luxuries, including
complimentary gin.
Rooms start from £120
a night, harbourhotels.

FOOD AND
DRINK
Bristol is full of quirky places to
eat and drink. We ate in the
hotel’s restaurant, The Jetty, and
it was remarkable. We dined on
buttered smoked chicken terrine,
followed by braised beef onglet,
finishing with banana soufflé,
accompanied by a lovely bottle
of organic rosé. We had a
fantastic breakfast at Ironworks
Supply Co in town, where
we shared a stack
of freshly made
pancakes covered
with banana and
chocolate chips,
and a pot of tea.
