Adults and children will likely already
be familiar with iconic Alnwick Castle
in Northumberland from its star turns
in both Harry Potter films and drama
series Downton Abbey (as the magnificent
Brancaster Castle). The first parts of Alnwick
Castle were erected around 1096 and it has
been home to the Percy family for over 700
years, who originally arrived from France
with William the Conqueror in the 11th
century. On your next trip, look out for
Dragon’s Quest, a number of fascinating
workshops or take part in the famous
Broomstick Training sessions with its
resident wizarding professors.

Pastime paradise

Lost to the brambles of time since the outbreak
of World War One, the Sleeping Beauty of the
Lost Gardens of Heligan was re-awakened
in 1990 to become Europe’s largest garden
restoration project. Heligan is one of the most
mysterious estates in England and today its
200 acres are a paradise for the young explorer,
wildlife fan, plant lover and garden romantic.

been used as a filming location in multiple shows and films.
