(singke) #1
t’s been far too long
since Xbox was graced
by the presence of
everyone’s favourite,
snowy-haired demon
slayer. Dante has been off the scene
since Ninja Theory’s (unfairly) polarising
DmCback in 2013, but now Capcom is
back at the helm and the series is
flashier and more ferocious than ever.
Boosted byResident Evil 7’s RE
Engine,Devil May Cry 5looks like a
spry and slick actioner. All that
seamless monster murder and
effortless juggle combos are also
backed by a truckload of devilish
imagination. Not only can Dante use a
motorcycle by the name of Cavaliere to
steamroll baddies, he even has some
fancy headwear to flatten foes.
Capcom describes using the Faust hat
as a risk/reward system, with the
stylish, slaughteringaccessory both
using and generating red orbs.
Dante’s cocky nephew Nero, star of
Devil May Cry 4, also returns, complete
with interchangeable and deadly arms
called Devilbreakers, and we’ve also
been teased appearances from series
favourites Trish and Lady.

V whiz
Even more interesting is the addition
of V to the cast ofDMC 5. This debuting
demon hunter rounds off the sequel’s
trio of playable leads, and he’s an
entirely different breed of fighter than
Dante or Nero. For one thing, he uses a
cane and a book as weapons, not a
sword. How the tome works in combat
isn’t entirely clear, but it seems to be
linked to the paranormal allies V can
call upon. Said chums include a
panther and what looks like a golem-
like creature.
With Hideaki Itsuno back in the
director’s chair, Dante’s latest
adventure looks more than capable of
matchingDevil May Cry 3– still the
comboing king of the franchise. Add in
clever online action that lets two
fellow players join you for select levels,
and this could betheaction game
to beat in 2019.Q
