rysis defined a generation of PC hardware, simply because that game
was designed to be more or less unplayable at its prettiest settings
without hardware first catching up. Which, of course, it did. Pretty much
anything can play Crysis these days.
In fact, there’s very few games that draw upon all the power of modern
hardware. Nvidia’s new RTX cards sure are beasts, but there’s only a
handful of modern titles that have been developed with features like
raytraced lighting in mind.
This industry is built on swings and roundabouts, however, so it’s only a
matter of time until some new game engine comes along that sets us all
back on our heels. Until then...
