Analysis and Design of a Modern SCADA System

(fajer) #1

3. 7 .2 The simulation model Size...................................

The simulation model consisted of:-
1. 19 substation nodes represented by the Ethernet
workstation model and an (Ethernet server) model which
represents the control station (Mosul400).
2. 19 servers (Ethernet server) and 1 workstation
(Ethernet_wkstn) was added for the telnet service
purpose.
3. Giga Ethernet cables (1000Mbps data rate) were used to
connect these different nodes.

3.7.3 SCADA System Services

To represent a real SCADA system work, six services were
applied. They can be summarized as follows:

  1. FTP service in which digital and analog alarm and status signals
were transmitted from each substation node to server for displaying
    and processing.
The common signals for the SCADA system used practically are
listed in Table 3. 6 where each signal is represented by a number of bits
depending on its type. Digital signals are represented by one bit and analog
signals are represented by 16 bits for more accuracy. Each substation
uploads different file sizes depending on the number of feeders and
transformers as listed in Table 3. 7.
Table 3. 6 : Signals name, type and numbers of bits represented for each
    substation and its feeder
