To help students gain comfort with large numbers we can
provide them with representations. Ask students to examine
10,000 dots (see page 192) to build meaning for the value.
By making 100 copies of the 10,000 dots, we can provide a
representation of 1,000,000 for students. Additionally, model
math language as numbers are read with students.
