JUNIOR CIVITAN CLUB

Regular Monthly Meeting
The regular monthly meeting of the Junior Civitan Club was called to order on Tuesday, Janu-
ary 28, 20—, 3:00 PM in Room 29 at Central High School by President Staci Marlin. Twenty-
seven members answered roll call. Three were absent.
The minutes of the December meeting, submitted to the membership via e-mail a week prior to
the meeting, were approved as submitted.
The treasurer reported a balance of $104.86 in the treasury.
The membership committee reported positive reaction to the membership drive held during the
two weeks’ period from January 6 through January 17. Eight new members plan to join the club
at the February meeting. During discussion, it was suggested that the club plan an informal
reception at the end of the next meeting to welcome the new members. The membership com-
mittee will consider the suggestion.
Little progress was reported by the apple-sale committee. The sale is scheduled for the third
week of May, and the current emphasis is on scheduling workers to sell the apples at the after-
noon and evening athletic events. Ron Richards, chairman, indicated he expected to have the
schedule completed by the March meeting.
A slate of officers was presented by the nominating committee in preparation for the election
of new officers during the March meeting. The nominees were Francis Wittington, President;
Jerome Hudson, Vice-President; Gaila Schwartz, Treasurer. The current secretary has another
year remaining in office.
In matters of unfinished business, President Marlin reported that the food donations collected
by the club were well received at the local food bank during the Christmas season. The club
donated nearly $400 worth of staples. In other unfinished business, Yolanda Wong requested
that the club reach a decision about Civitan Scholarship applicants since time is nearing for
the application deadline. She made a motion, seconded by Joyce Kozlowski, that at the regu-
lar February meeting the club select by secret ballot a representative from the organization to
apply for the $500 scholarship, representation to be based on club participation and club sup-
port. The motion passed.
No new business came before the membership. Members were reminded of the dates for
the Junior Achievement exhibit next weekend, February 3 and 4, since Civitan members like
to support fellow students’ activities. In addition, Lanny Collins, student athletic director, sug-
gested members watch for posters announcing dates for spring sports meetings.
