Whenwastheclubfounded?

Thepresentclubis a reincarnationof a club

thatwasfirstformedin the1950s.It was

reconstitutedin 1980/81,ontheinitiativeof a

smallgroupwhichincludedKenBiggsFPRS.

Therewereinitiallyaboutsixmemberswho

metin thebackroomof thelocalpub.Ken

Biggssays,‘TheearlydaysI rememberwith

fondnessaswewerealllearningfromeach

other.Wehadmanyexcursions and even a

weekendin thelakes.’

Whatdoesyourcluboffertonewmembers?

Wemeetona weeklybasisfromSeptember

toApril,andoffera variedprogramme

includingtalks,tutorialsandcompetitions.

Newmemberscandecidewhetherthey

wanttocompetein theclubclass(for

less-experiencedphotographers),orif they

wouldliketogostraightintotheAdvanced

class. In the summer months we normally

havea fewexcursions.Forthecomingseason

weareplanningtoofferseparatetutorial

sessionsforpeopletocomeandbringtheir

camerasorphones,andlearnhowtousethem

moreeffectively.Wearehopingthatthiswill

attractsomepotentialnewmemberswho

mightotherwiselacktheconfi dence to get

involvedin a cameraclub.

Describea typicalclubmeeting.

Membersstartarrivingat 7pmfora 7.30pm

start.If it’saneveningwherewehavea

speaker,wewouldnormallybreakaround

8.15-8.30pm,followedbya secondhalf,

finishingaround9.30pm.Competitionnights

in particulartendtorunonlaterthanthis,

withalltheDPIs(digitallyprojectedimages)

beingshownbeforethebreak,andtheprints

thereafter.Wehavebeenintroducingsome

themedcompetitionstotrytoincrease the

diversity of images within the club.
