- Discuss with a group of classmates the visuals you’ve seen used during the last week.
When would visuals have made it easier for you to understand the material? When
would visual or audio support have helped you pay better attention? Which support, if
any, was best for your learning style preferences? - Discuss with a small group of your classmates how to best display a drawing in (1) a
large auditorium, (2) a classroom, (3) a speech given outdoors, (4) a presentation in
someone’s living room, and (5) a video that you plan to post to the Internet. (Several
ways may be appropriate.) - Working in a small group, choose a sample outline or speech from Appendix B and
design at least three visual aids for it. Show your designs to the rest of the class and
explain your choices. - PowerPoint turned 25 in 2012. You can access the website of Robert Gaskins, one of
its originators, on your online resources. There find the PRESS stories along the right
side of the web page. Read at least two and make a list of negative and of positive
aspects of PowerPoint. Come to class prepared to discuss your list. - With some classmates, compare PowerPoint to Prezi. (If you are unfamiliar with Prezi,
go to YouTube and watch a video introducing it.)
