1999-2009 EUROPEAN UNIVERSITY SPORTS ASSOCIATION From foundation on

T

he European University Championships in Badminton,
Tennis, Futsal and Beach Volleyball were successfully or-
ganised for the first time in 2004. France, Cyprus, Austria
and Poland signed as new entries on the list of the organis-
ing countries. Together with the championships in Volleyball,
Basketball and Football the number of participants crossed
one thousand. 115 university teams from 21 countries repre-
sented a new record number of participants and an increase
of almost fifty percent compared to the year before.
32 participants from eight countries participated in the
3 rd EUSA Symposium that was organised by the Swedish Uni-
versity Sports Federation in cooperation with Dalarna Univer-
sity and City of Falun. The aim of the event was to deliver a
balanced mix of short keynote lectures, workshops and sport
and cultural activity amongst participants.

Wroclaw, Paralimni, Belgrade and Nottingham were the
venues of the Executive Committee Meetings. The Execu-
tive Committee spent some time reviewing the administrative
support levels, office location, the management of succes-
sion planning of the presidency, the composition and term of
the board together with a review of the existing regulations.
Consequently the proposals to the General Assembly were
prepared. The Executive Committee nominated Mr. Matjaž
Pečovnik from Slovenia as the new Chief Executive instead of
Ms. Dahmen who resigned. The office was moved from Han-
nover to Ljubljana. The Committee also approved Rowing as
a new sport on the program from 2005 on.
In October, the FISU “Challenge 21 Working Group” invited
all continental and regional university sports organisations to
a meeting in Brussels to discuss the intentions and expecta-
tions both of FISU and the organisations.
