E
leven European Universities Championships were or-
ganised with 29 European countries, representing 2738
participants and 275 university teams participating. Ukraine,
Turkey and Ireland hosted the championships for the first
time. The EUSA Cups were organised in Taekwondo and Box-
ing in Moscow, Biathlon in Tyumen, Aesthetic Group Gym-
nastics in Tartu and Cross Country in Ilgaz. The Executive
Committee assigned the title of the EUSA Patronage to the
SELL Games in Finland and the Friendship Games in Israel.
The Executive Committee convened on four occasions in Is-
tanbul, London, Belgrade and Paris. In 2008, for the first
time, EUSA also got revenues from sponsorship. This allowed
the Executive Committee to define the working relations
for the settlement of an even more operational office with
a full time engagement of the Secretary General and with
a part time Sport Manager as well as the collaborations of
two Secretariat co-workers. The social and economic diver-
sity among the member countries has made necessary to es-
tablish a “Development Plan” through a technological and
economic support towards those National University Sports
Associations which were not yet capable to carry on a full
constant activity.
45 representatives from the Organising Committees of the
European Universities Championships 2009 and EUSA Tech-
nical Delegates participated in the EUSA Convention organ-
ised from November 7 to 9, 2008 at the University of Lju-
bljana, Slovenia.
