9 th EUROPEAN UNIVERSITIES BASKETBALL
CHAMPIONSHIP

15 men and 12 women teams from 16 European coun-
tries participated in the 9th European Universities Basketball
Championship that took place between June 15 and 21,
2009 in Heraklion, Greece. The event was organised on a very
high level by the University of Crete, the Municipality of Her-
aklion and Hellenic Committee for University Sports. More
than 370 participants were able to compete against their
colleagues from all over Europe and enjoy their stay in the
beautiful Island of Crete. The winners became the students
from the University of Ljubljana, who won in the men’s final
their colleagues from ENGECON Cherepovets 100:94 and the
Russian State Agricultural University became the women’s
champions with a victory in the finals against the University
of Amsterdam with 59:48.
