BEACH VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

16 men and 11 women university teams from 11 European
countries took part at the 1st European University Beach Vol-
leyball Championship, which was organised by the Austrian
University Sports Association and the University Sports In-
stitute in Klagenfurt, Austria during June 16 and 19, 2004.
The tournament took place on four beach volleyball courts
of Klagenfurt’s public beach front by the lake Worthersee;
and was integrated into a popular sports festival of the area
as its athletic highlight. The weather was perfect, the or-
ganisation was on a very high level, and both, the players
and the spectators enjoyed the good atmosphere beside the
sports programme. The students could also enjoy cruising
the lake and other social activities. The first title of European
University Beach Volleyball Champions went to the University
of Bayreuth and University of Physical Education and Sports
Gdansk.
