BEACH VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
The 6th European Universities Beach Volleyball Championship
was organised in Gdynia, Poland from July 29 to August 2,


  1. 76 participants were representing 26 university teams
    from 13 European countries. The event was organised by the
    Gdynia Maritime University and University Sport Association
    of Poland. For the first time in history there was also a mixed
    tournament of consolation played for teams which did not
    qualify in the main tournament. The title of the champions
    finally went to the University of Lodz in men and the Esto-
    nian Business School, Estonia in women competition.

The pool play in the morning started off with great sunshine and hot
temperatures up to 30 degrees in the sun. In the women ́ s division Estonia 1
is the clear winner of the pool play, with no defeats and a point ratio of 2,3.

The second place goes to Spain with also no defeats and a point ratio of 1,8.
Also undefeated stay the women from the Czech Republic and Germany
(point ratio 1,4 and 1,2). In the men ́s division three teams stay undefeated in
all three matches in the pool play.

Pool Play at temperatures up to 30 degrees
Poland 1 with a point ratio of 1,58, Spain with a point ratio of 1,53 and
Poland 2 with a point ratio of 1,32. The results from the pool play formed the
basis for the seeding in the Main Draw. That is, according to the technical
delegate Daniela Erni, the fairest option because nation specific points from
three different rankings are barely comparable. Moreover by playing in a
pool system it is ensured that every team plays at least has four games, even
if they loose their first two in the Draw which played in Double Main
Elimation Mode. “This is one of the differences between an official
international tournament and an international university tournament.
We wanted to ensure that the teams can collect the biggest amount of
experience they possibly can.”, Daniela Erni explains. “
