Aruinedamphitheaterloomsoverthesurrounding
buildings.Vinesclingtoitssteps,andanimalstatues
lineitsstands.Themuddygroundoutsideisstripped
cleanofvegetation.Aneeriesilencehangsoverthe
area.Nobirdscry,noinsectschirp,nothingstirs.TheamphitheateristhelairoftheKingofFeathers,a
powerfultyrannosaurusrexwithmagicalabilities.Asthey
approachtheamphitheater,characterscan’tfailtonoticegiant
clawedfootprintsinthemud.Fromtoetoheel,eachfootprint
spansover 5 feet.Closertotheruin,theyfindlong,slender
feathersinscarlet,orange,andgreenhues,andheapsofdung
largeenoughtoburyadwarf.
Theamphitheaterisanopen-air,semicircularstructure
withtieredseatsoverlookingaruinedstage.TheOmuansused
itforpublicdebatesandplaysbothcomicandtragic.Narrow
passagesandrubble-strewnchambersspreadbeneaththe
grandstands.Thisdarkenedmazeishometofive
deinonychuses(seeappendixD).Whilethetyrannosaurusis
outhunting,thedeinonychusesleavetheirlairandprowl
throughouttheamphitheater,attackingothercreatureson
sight.StrewnabouttheirlairareOmuanrelics(see“Treasure”
below).

Duringtheday,thereisa 50 percentchancethattheKingof
Feathersrestsintheamphitheater.Atnight,thischance
decreasesto 25 percent.Ifthebeastisouthunting,thereisa
cumulative 20 percentchanceperhourofitreturning.The
KingofFeathersisafeatheredtyrannosaurusrex,withthese
changes:

( 250 gp),andahelmoftelepathy.THEKINGOFFEATHERS
ThemonstroustyrannosaurusknownastheKingof
FeathersistheundisputedlordofOmu.Mostotherdwellersof
theForbiddenCityliveinfearofitsthunderousapproachand
steerwellclearoftheamphitheater,itslair.TheKingofFeatherscanbeencounteredanywherewithin
Omu.Atfirst,teasethecharacterswithglimpsesofitmoving
throughdistantfogorhavethemhearitsroarechoingover
theruins.Itmightappearwhiletheheroesareexploringthe
ruinsortakingarest.Alternatively,itmightinterruptafight
that’sgoingbadlyfortheparty(oristooeasy).14 .TomboftheNineGods

markethallandhavesetsixtrapsthroughoutthebazaar.A
characterhasacumulative 20 percentchanceoffindingatrap
foreachminutespentsearchingthebazaar.Whenatrapis
found,havethecharactermakeaDC 15 Wisdom(Perception)
check.Ifthechecksucceeds,thecharacterspotsthetrap(a
hidden,spring-loadedcatapult)anditstriggeringmechanism
(atripwireorpressureplate)withouttriggeringit.Once
spotted,thetrapiseasilydisarmedoravoided(nocheck
required).Afailedcheckindicatesthatthecharacter
accidentallysetoffthetrap,whichduplicatestheWeapon
Inventionattackofakoboldinventor(seeappendixD).
Afterthecharactersfindthreetraps,theyspotakobold
disappearingdownawell-hiddenstaircaseontheoutskirtsof
thebazaar.Iftheyfollowthecreature,itleadsthemtothe
cellarsunderthemarketplace.
