thisdome.Theyemergefromthestonetospyoncreatures
thatpassby.Onechwingaisfascinatedbytallpeopleand
mightbestowacharmofrestoration(seechapter 7 ofthe
DungeonMaster’sGuide)onthetallestpartymember,should
ittakeashinetotheparty.Theothertwochwingasareshy
andsuspiciousofstrangers.
4 .RuinedPalace
Tracesofgold-coloredplasterstillclingtothisdomein
afewspots,buteverywhereelseyouseeoldweathered
bricks,morethanafewofwhichhavefallenthrough.
Thelarger-than-life-sizeelephantcarvingsandthe
graceful,toweringspirearestillmagnificentsights,even
iftheirgloryisdimmedbytimeanddecay.
Acharactercanclimbtheoutsideofthedomewitha
successfulDC 10 Strength(Athletics)andpeerinsidethrough
anyoneofanumberofholes.Thetopofthedomehasbeen
weakenedbytimeandcollapsesundertheweightofa
creatureweighing 200 poundsormore.Anycreaturestanding
onorclingingtotheroofwhenitcollapsesfalls,takingdamage
asnormalandpossiblylandinginthecistern.
Irondoorsontheeasternsideofthedomearerustedshut
andcanbeforcedopenonlywithasuccessfulDC 17 Strength
(Athletics)check—buttheimpactcausesaportionofthe
ceilingtocollapse.Whoeverforcedthedoorsopenmustmake
aDC 15 Dexteritysavingthrow,taking 9 ( 2 d 8 )bludgeoning
damageonafailedsave,orhalfasmuchdamageona
successfulone.Identicaldoorsonthewesternsideofthe
domearerustedcompletelyofftheirhinges.

Standingtoonesideofthegiantwarriorisanother
statue,thisonemuchsmaller.Exquisitelylifelike,it
depictsamanreachingfortheurn,hisfaceturned
towardthebalcony.Inhislifelesseyes,youseeterror.
Stonestepsascendalongthecurvedwalltothelevelof
asecondfloor,butthatfloorisalmostentirely
collapsed.Someone’sbeenupthere,however,because
amessageofsomesortisscrawledacrossthedomed
ceiling.
Whenitwasintact,thesecondfloorwasactuallya
mezzaninethatwrappedaroundthreesidesofthedome.The
head,chest,andshouldersofthewarriorstatueroseabovethe
mezzaninelevel.
The 20 - foot-deeppitcontains 1 d 4 + 2 inchesofrainwater
andishometotwoswarmsofpoisonoussnakes.The
swarmsarecontenttoremaininthepitandattackany
creaturethatjoinsthem,exceptforZalkoré,whomthesnakes
obey.Thewallsofthepitcan’tbeclimbedwithoutgearor
magic.
Rainwaterpouringintothepitthroughholesintheroof
drainsviapipesthroughthetyrannosaurusspoutatthehead
ofthemainconcourse(area 1 ).Thesnakescanalsocomeand
gothroughthepipes,whichare 6 incheswide.
MezzanineMessage.Themessagescrawledontheinside
ofthedomecanbereadonlybyclimbingtothemezzanine,
butthedecrepitconditionofthestairsandbalconymakesthis
venturerisky.Acharacterwhoclimbsthestepsmustmakea
successfulDC 10 Dexterity(Acrobatics)checktomovewithout
jarringtheflooring;otherwise,thestepscollapseandthe
charactertakes 1 d 6 bludgeoningdamagefromthefall.ASmall
