Although they look similar, a hare is not a
rabbit. There are several distinctions.
First, hares are larger than rabbits. They also
have longer ears and much longer back legs.
Next, unlike rabbits, hares generally live alone.
They do not burrow like rabbits, but rather lay
in grass in what is called “forms”—indentations
that keep the form of the animal. Like rabbits,
hares come in a wide range of colors.
Baby hares are called leverets. Unlike bunnies,
they are born with their eyes open and can use
their powerful legs very soon after they are born.
