How Plants Grow
Plants need food, water, and sunlight to grow. After you plant a seed in the dirt, a
tiny growth pushes its way out. The plant grows upward, trying to reach the sunlight.
After it breaks through the earth, it starts growing taller. The plant must get water, or
it can dry out and die. If there is little rain where you live, you may need to water
your plant. Plants receive food from the soil. If the soil in your area is poor, you may
need to add special food so that the plant gets everything it needs. Some plants
bloom into flowers. Others produce nuts. These nuts become the new seeds, and
the steps start all over again.
