    A well-documented narrative of the company founded by Richard D’Oyly
    Carte. He brought Gilbert and Sullivan together for their first success, Trial by
    Jury,in 1875 and produced all their other operas. After years of financial diffi-
    culties, the organization folded in 1992. Backnotes, 43 illustrations, bibliogra-
    phy of about 120 items, name and title index. No chronology (see #1767).
