Show students Image Card 13 (Hatshepsut). Talk about the Image

Card, and have students share what they learned from the read-

aloud about Hatshepsut and pharaohs in ancient Egypt. Ask

students how this is similar to Mesopotamia. (They both had rulers

who infl uenced what happened during the development of the

civilization.) Ask students how Hatshepsut is different from the

leaders of Mesopotamia. (Hatshepsut was female.) Tell students

that you are going to place the Image Card in the Leaders column

on the Civilizations Chart to help them remember that the ancient

Egyptians had leaders called pharaohs.
