Word Work: Market
- In the nursery rhyme you heard, “This little pig went to market.”
- Say the word market with me three times.
- A market is a place where people buy and sell things.
- I go to the market to buy fresh vegetables.
- Have you ever been to a market? What kinds of things did you see or
buy? Try to use the word market when you tell about it.
[Ask two or three students. If necessary, guide and/or rephrase the
students’ responses: “When I went to the market, I.. .”] - What’s the word we’ve been talking about?
Use a Making Choices activity for follow-up. Directions: I am going to list
several places where people may go. If you think this place could also be
called a market, say, “That’s a market.” If the place could not be called a
